The Bar B Q Tour

Loosen your belt for this one.

Texas has a unique love of bar b q.  It is almost a religion here.  Just for the record, I am a bar b q addict and snob.   I stop everywhere I go just to sample the wares.  This tour takes in the best of the best and the local favorites.

In the southern US it is pork.  In St Louis it is ribs.  In Texas it is beef brisket and pork ribs along with German sausage.  There are several kinds of Bar B Q in Texas.  In east Texas it is brisket and ribs served in a sweet spicy tomato based sauce with lots of Louisiana style hot sauce added to taste.  In west Texas it is brisket served with a tangy vinegar and mustard based sauce - and a lot of Louisiana style hot sauce added to taste.  All washed down with Lone Star or Shiner beer.

Central Texas has all the above.  This tour is variable.  We cruise to several of the small towns and rural bar b q joints to sample (or pig out) on the best eatin Texas has to offer.  Along the way we see historic towns and places and meet some interesting people.   Eatin bar b q in the local joint is a great way to rub shoulders with the locals.

The tour includes classic joints such as The Luling Meat Market,  the legendary Black's Bar B Q in Luling, Guadalupe Smoked Meats in Gruene, and the ultimate bar b q experience, The Salt Lick outside Austin.  I also include a few secret favorite joints I will not share on the internet.

If you feel like staying out late, to finish the day we can drop in on some local music venues like Gruene Hall and knock back some Shiner beer and listen to some great music.

You will end this trip talking with a Texas twang wanting to move to Texas.
