Central Texas Possible Tours
Many of these places are close together (for Texas that is) and several of them can be easily visited on one day trip. Often I take guests down the historic routes or even down the dirt roads that connect these places. These are only a few examples of many possible trips.
| Spring Time in Texas, Wildflowers From march to may Texas has one of the most spectacular displays of wild flowers to be seen anywhere. This is a back road trip to the best places to see wildflowers. It usually takes in a few of the places below. |
| Just wander Around What it says, We hit the road without a plan. My favorite. |
Goliad
A restored Spanish Mission and a
Spanish Fort in a beautiful unspoiled small Texas town. Getting there
is a nice drive too. Lots to see on the way. More. |
Gonzales
A beautiful town way off the beaten track. Lots of history and architecture. The Texas revolution started here. Architecture from log houses to Victorian mansions. Lots of Texas revolution historical places. More. |
| Cuero -
Yorktown Two small unspoiled, the real thing, Texas towns. Well off the beaten track. These are ranch towns from the old Texas. Yorktown is famous for its leatherworks. You can get western boots, belts, handbags and more here. Shopping with a western flavor. More. |
| La Grange
- Round Top - Bastrop Without question, the most scenic region of Texas. La Grange is a nice mid sized rural town. Bastrop has a historic district on the river with great shopping and dinning. Round Top is small with a lot of historic buildings. These are places where Texans go to get back to their roots. Good shopping and at times, high culture. Round Top is home to a cultural center that hosts Shakespeare festivals and major symphony orchestras. More. |
| The Old
San Felipe Road This old early 1800s road runs from San Antonio to San Felipe. San Felipe is gone now, but in 1830 it was the main town in the Austin colony. Bypassed by modern highways, much of this old route is now small country lanes and farm top market roads. The old route goes thru Cibilo, Seguin, Gonzales, Moulton, Oakland and Columbus. It goes past historic ranches that date back to Spanish times, old plantations and thru beautiful country sides. Along the way there are dozens of historic places such as where the first shot in the Texas Revolution was fired. A perfect and full day for a history buff. This is just one of the many historic routes we can travel down. |
